OUR RULES
Priddy is within the AONB, as a result, we have a few rules with regards to sheds or poly tunnels as we want to protect our landscape from any obscurities, cloches for your seedlings are a great alternative. We also recommend you use bamboo canes or natural supports, as we have a no plastic rule across the plots. We want to keep our growing as clean as possible, therefore also ruling out chemically based weed killers & pesticides.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:

Firstly, enjoy yourself, the fresh air, planting and maintaining of your plot.

Make sure you bring yourself a drink
-
We have a strictly organic policy, and NO artificial chemicals or fertilisers or plastics are to be used.

YOU CAN PLANT:

Vegetables

Supported cropping vegetables

Herbs (mint needs maintaining)

Flowers

Contained fruit bushes

YOU CAN USE:
​
-
Wooden planting troughs
-
Wood to contain your plot boundary

Clay pots
-
Coconut husk
-
Mulch organic
-
Fibre plug pots
-
Watering can
-
Anything that’s organic and natural
-
You can use ground-level cloches
-
You can use dry bamboo cane/ wooden supports for your climbers (no willow)
-
Maintain your plot by keeping it weed free, again organic methods must be used such as planting a Rose near your fruit or marigolds near your veg plants, using white vinegar sprays for aphids, our rotted manure for fertiliser/any alternative organic fertiliser

Beer traps and crushed eggshells for slug and snail prevention
-
Scarecrows made from hessian sacks or cotton and wool fabrics

You can use a wooden edge to your plot or use raised wooden planting troughs

We will allow you to net your fruit bushes on a wooden frame and protect your young plants too with a net with a wooden structure support. Make sure you remove the netting once you have finished with it.

Take your rubbish home with you

Keep the area around your plot clear, these are access paths to all the allotments.

Attend to your plot regularly to maintain it making sure you weed it regularly
-
Pay monthly by direct debit or a yearly fee, keep us updated with your details in case your circumstance change for any reason.

Be neighbourly and friendly at all times
-
Be proud of what you grow and respect everyone else’s plots.

WHAT YOU CAN'T DO:

We don’t allow sheds or polytunnels on the plots, we will provide a lockable shed and shelter for you to use
-
No plastic is allowed to be left on plots including any drink bottles
-
No animals, such as chickens, rabbits etc
-
Don’t fall out with anyone at the allotments, causing arguments and/or distress. Absolutely no use of your tools in an aggressive or threatening manner.

We have a strict no plastic rule/chemical, artificial components and/or sprays policy.

WHAT YOU CAN'T HAVE/PLANT:
-
No fruit trees
-
No living bamboo or willow
-
Any ponds or water feature
-
No hosepipe or sprinklers or water butts (water will be available at all times.

No compost bins ( a large compost area will be available)
-
No plastic pots left on site
-
No plastic bags on sticks to scare birds
-
No plastic or decorative windmills, ornaments or metal ornaments etc
-
No carpet as weed block or any synthetic products
-
No fire pits or bonfires

DON'T NEGLECT YOUR PLOT:
-
Don’t leave weeds, cultivate regularly
-
Don’t allow your plot to overgrow
-
Don’t leave dead plants or weeds on the paths, put them in the compost area
-
Don’t go on anyone else’s plot without permission
-
Don’t wash your tools off in the water trough
-
Don’t leave your tools on the plot, take them home, or put them in the lockable shed
-
Don’t leave any rubbish
-
You can’t re-let your plot or sublet it yourself. Speak to us and we will help you sort this out.

If you no longer want your plot due to a change in circumstances we must be given a ONE-month notice in advance, you are also responsible for removing all your items and clearing your plot within the month's notice period

Do ask us for help and advice or look after your plot if you are away and we will do that for you.
